Job Title: Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant
Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Contract Type: Temp to Perm, Full Time from September
Leader Education is seeking a compassionate and skilled Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a well-regarded 11-18 special school in Wakefield. The school caters for students with severe, complex, and profound multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), and is now looking to strengthen its dedicated team with staff who have experience supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
This full-time role is available from September and offers a temp-to-perm opportunity for the right candidate, providing the chance to develop a rewarding career within a specialist educational setting.
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Experience supporting children and young people with Autism, ideally in a school or care setting
- Knowledge of autism-specific strategies and communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton, visual supports)
- A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting students with varying levels of need
- The ability to work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to meet students' individual needs
- A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and promoting the well-being of vulnerable learners
