Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant (Children's Residential Background Welcome)
Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Contract Type: Long-term role with potential to go permanent

Leader Education is seeking passionate and resilient SEND Teaching Assistants to join a specialist SEMH provision supporting children aged 11-16 in Wakefield. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals from a children's residential care background to bring their skills to an educational setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in both group and 1:1 settings.
  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering tailored lessons that meet students' individual needs and Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Help maintain a positive and structured learning environment by implementing effective behavior management strategies.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to support their academic and emotional development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create holistic strategies for student success.
  • Monitor and record progress, providing regular feedback to senior staff, parents, and carers.

The Successful Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an SEMH, SEND, or residential care setting.
  • A compassionate, patient, and proactive approach to supporting students with complex needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • A valid enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
