Job description

At Leader Education, we are seeking a dedicated and passionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to support students of various ages in an alternative provision in Durham. The ideal Learning Support Assistant will have experience working with young people who have social, emotional, or behavioural difficulties, as well as a genuine commitment to helping them reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers in the delivery of a diverse and engaging curriculum.
  • Provide one-on-one support to students with individualised learning plans.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Monitor and manage student's behaviour and wellbeing.
  • Support the development of social and emotional skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff to create an effective learning environment.
  • Prepare and adapt learning materials to meet the needs of students.
  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and external agencies as required.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates will need an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check or the willingness to obtain one.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma; a relevant teaching assistant qualification is desirable.
  • Previous experience working with secondary-aged students in an educational setting.
  • A compassionate and empathetic approach to supporting young people with diverse needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Resilience and adaptability when faced with challenging situations.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development.
