Job description

Leader Education are recruiting Learning Support Assistants to work in a children's secure home in Leeds.

The home supports residents to engage in learning through formal on-site education. The home cares for 24 young people aged 10 to 18 who are referred to the home following court proceedings, placed on remand, or sentenced to a period of detention, or because they need to be placed in secure accommodation for their own safety or the safety of others.

You will play a vital role in the daily lives and long-term outlook for the vulnerable young people at the home, who may have complex needs and display challenging behaviours. The goal is to inspire change in attitudes, behaviours, learning and emotions.

You will need experience working in education supporting children with complex needs and challenging behaviour to be considered for this role. You will be expected to provide 1:1 support for our young people with additional learning needs in accessing all aspects of the curriculum. You will also be required to plan, deliver, and assess learning activities in consultation with curriculum subject leads. We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic, adaptable candidates with the personal qualities to connect with and inspire vulnerable children and young people.

The role is full- time and the home works on a rota. Daily shifts are usually 7am-3pm and 2pm-10pm

The successful candidate will have:

  • A passion for working with children with additional needs
  • Experience of working with children and young adults with challenging behaviour previously.
  • Provide calming and nurturing support for some of the most vulnerable students with EHCP's.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service
  • A passion for the progress of children with SEMH needs
  • An ability to work as part of a team
  • Managing behaviours
